Stepping Out to Step Up; Broncos Put Work In

With just two more wins this season over last season, much could be accomplished for the Denver Broncos. For Head Coach Sean Payton, going into his third season with the Broncos, it would be his third consecutive season, improving the team by two wins. If they can manage another two wins this season, it would put the Denver Broncos at 12 wins in 2025. The last time the Broncos had 12 wins, they won the Super Bowl ten years ago in 2015. To that end, the Broncos have assembled the team with arguably the most talent since that Super Bowl team as they conclude their off-season workouts this week.

All 32 teams hit the field for mandatory minicamps around the NFL for the offseason, all with roster changes through free agency or via NFL draft additions and undrafted signings. The Broncos were no exception, even adding talent into the last days of OTA’s at Dove Valley. With the conclusion of minicamps held this week, the Broncos got their first and best look at their newly acquired players in coordination with their established players from last season. Excitement and anticipation circulated Broncos Country with glimpses of the new assembly of players.

Joining the mix to fortify Bo Nix, the Broncos signed running back JK Dobbins, formerly with the Los Angeles Chargers. Dobbins joins the running back stable with rookie RJ Harvey, second-year player Audric Estime, and veterans Jaleel McLaughlin, Tyler Badie, and Blake Watson. The lack of production from the running backs for the Broncos in 2025 was arguably the team’s weakest link. Dobbins brings a proven veteran force to the team.

“I’m going to have a chip on my shoulder, of course, but I’m here,” Dobbins said. “I’m worried about winning. I don’t want to just beat the Chargers. I want to go on, and I want to get a ring. I’ve been in the playoffs every year I’ve played. I’m tired of losing in them. That’s my goal, is to bring a Super Bowl to this city and just be a blessing to this community, as well.”

Dobbins also joins many new faces in the locker room and the city of Denver. From number one draft choice Jahdae Barron to incoming free agents Evan Engram, Talanoa Hufanga, and Dre Greenlaw. Proven talent combined with a team trending upwards in NFL standings lends itself to a mounting fervor around Broncos Country even three months before the season starts.

“[They’re] great additions to our team and towards our success,” 20244 Defensive Player of the Year  Pat Surtain said Monday at his PS2 Experience event to raise funds for the Patrick Surtain II Foundation. “Obviously, with Dre and Hufanga, those guys are going to get after it. They’ve been to Super Bowls before. They know how to win at a high level. … I’m looking forward to stepping on the field with them [this season].”

The Broncos had beautiful weather at their training facility, which is transforming into their new headquarters. Head Coach Sean Payton commented on his improved roster and how Dobbins fits into the roster while talking with the media.

“We’ll see how training camp goes, see how all the carries go,” Payton said. “You know what? When that time comes, you guys are going to know just like I’m going to know. You’re going to see it.”
