Rockies Record First Sweep of Season

Rockies Record First Sweep of Season

Summary
After winning their first series win of the season in two games, the Colorado Rockies secured their first series sweep in game three of their visit to Miami on Wednesday. It also turned out to be the first win of the season for Rockies starter Kyle Freeland, who turned in a dominant performance against the Marlins.
It was Freeland’s 13th start of the season in a 3-2 win over the Marlins, including a four-hit win with two unearned runs in 6 1/3 innings. Getting solid run support from the red-hot bat of Hunter Goodman, the Rockies went ahead on his game-winning homer in the eighth.
Goodman had a multi-home run game in the series opener on Monday in the Rockies 6-4 win at loanDepot Park. Before arriving in sunny Miami on Monday, the Rockies had played 29 straight games against teams at or above .500.
“I think it’s been more encouraging than discouraging,” Goodman said. “We had some rough games in the first part of the year, and being able to just be in ballgames and have a chance to win is always better than just not being in it.”
Going back to last season, the run of 22 series losses by the Rockies was the longest in MLB history, according to the Elias Sports Bureau. The win on Wednesday improved the Rockies to a 12-50 record, moving Colorado into a tie with the 1932 Red Sox and the 1904 Senators for the worst mark after 61 games in the Modern Era (since 1900).
“We’ve played some really tough teams of late,” said Goodman, who has 10 homers this season. “The last four teams were four of the best teams in baseball, and we played competitive baseball with them. We just weren’t able to find a way to win a ballgame. To come here and win…. is good. We can take that momentum going forward.”
