This Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Denver welcomes a new chapter in Black rodeo as Black Rodeo USA presents the MLK Jr. African-American Heritage Rodeo—the group’s first event since succeeding the Bill Pickett Invitational Rodeo.

Black Rodeo USA founder Lanette Campbell, a nationally respected cultural leader, leads the organization in honoring the Black cowboy legacy. Her vision emphasizes rodeo as a platform for legacy and community values, continuing a tradition meaningful to Denver for decades.

Black Rodeo USA’s arrival brings national recognition and launches its 2026 tour, with Denver as the opening host city, celebrating both continuity and renewal in Black rodeo.

The evening will begin with a ceremonial stagecoach entrance featuring community leaders and dignitaries, setting a tone inspired by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s vision of the Beloved Community, grounded in dignity, service, courage, and compassion.

Inside the coliseum, fans will experience high-energy rodeo action and a welcoming, multigenerational atmosphere as they meet Miss Black Rodeo USA and mascot Byron the Bull.

Following Denver, Black Rodeo USA’s 2026 tour will travel through Oklahoma, Tennessee, Florida, Arizona, Nevada, and Texas before returning to Golden, Colorado, in the fall. Each stop reflects Campbell’s enduring mission to preserve heritage while inspiring future generations through the power of rodeo.

The rodeo begins promptly at 6:00 p.m. Tickets are available through local vendors, Ticketmaster, BlackRodeoUSA.com, and include grounds admission on the day of the event.
