Liquor stores had been prohibited in Five Points and along Welton Street for years due to their proximity to a local school, but Matthew’s vision for MY Wine & Spirits brought a much-needed resource back to the area. His move wasn’t just entrepreneurial; it was an act of commitment to the community he loved. Through his business, MY provided a convenient option for people in the neighborhood to purchase wine and spirits locally. His store became a regular stop for many residents, and he was a familiar and reliable presence in the area.

Matthew Yarber, Jr. was born on January 17, 1946. As described in his obituary, he grew up in a lively home filled with love, laughter, and ambition. He graduated from Manual High and Metro City College. Across Denver, he became known for his confidence, charm, and distinctive style, earning him the title of “Best Dressed Man in Denver.”

A devoted husband to Patricia for 57 years, a loving father, grandfather, veteran, and community leader, Matthew lived with purpose, passion, and pride. His involvement in local events, support for small businesses, and dedication to uplifting families made him a pillar of the Five Points community.

Mr. Yarber passed away on October 29, 2025, and the family held a Celebration of Life Service on Thursday, November 6, at Pipkin Braswell Mortuary
