Justice Denied: The Killing of Jalen Seabron

In the heart of Douglas County, Colorado last month, a young Black life was callously extinguished, revealing yet again the brutal reality of systemic racism in law enforcement. Jalen Seabron, a 23-year-old who was simply trying to protect his pregnant girlfriend and sisters, was gunned down by Officer Nick Moore in a horrifying display of excessive force and racial injustice.

The district attorney’s decision on Monday, April 7th, not to charge Moore with killing Seabron is a stark reminder that the system is fundamentally broken. Seabron was shot seven times in the back and arm while attempting to protect his loved ones from a potential threat. He was not an aggressor. He was not a criminal. He was a young man celebrating his birthday who became another statistic in America’s long history of police violence against Black men.

The details are chilling. Officer Moore arrived without sirens, did not identify himself, and shot Seabron based on a mere “feeling” that he might do something. No warning. No opportunity to comply. Just instantaneous, lethal force at a close range.

This is not an isolated incident. This is a pattern. A systemic failure that continues to rob Black families of their loved ones, of their futures, of their fundamental right to live.

The community’s response has been clear: “We will not be silent. We will not accept this injustice.” There is a unified cry for accountability and change from Seabron’s family to community leaders, clergy, and activists.

We demand more. We will fight until “more” becomes reality.

Justice for Jalen Seabron.
