For a team flirting with the worst record in MLB history, one player will be recognized as the best of the worst. Catcher Hunter Goodman was named to the 2025 MLB All-Star roster for the National League on Sunday.

Now in his third season, this marks Goodman’s first All-Star selection. He is one of 19 players making their debut in the Midsummer Classic, which will be held on July 15 in Atlanta, Georgia, for its 95th edition.

Goodman earned a spot as a reserve catcher and becomes the second Rockies catcher in three years to make the All-Star team. Elias Díaz was named MVP of the 2023 All-Star Game after hitting a game-winning home run.

Although each team must have at least one representative, Goodman’s performance more than justified his selection. Through Sunday, he held a .281 batting average while leading the Rockies with 16 home runs and 50 RBIs.

“It was an awesome moment,” Goodman said about the announcement. “It’s a blessing. I can’t thank everybody around me enough for helping me get there. It was a great experience having it in the clubhouse with all the guys. We’ve been going through a rough, rough season, but we’ve stuck together. It was awesome to share that moment with them. Honestly, I’m going to try to take everything in and make the most of the experience. I’m excited to be around some of those guys—as a young player, to pick their brains—and to experience the weekend for what it is and just have a good time.”

At the start of the season, in Game One in Tampa, Cory Little, Senior Director of Rockies Communications, told DSR that Goodman was “one to watch” in 2025. Now, through 80 games, the former utility player has found his groove at his natural position behind the plate.

“For me, this has been a long time coming,” said Schaeffer. “That’s his natural position. I don’t want to speak for him, but it wasn’t hard for him to get back there every day. I think it was more of a relief to return than to keep trying all these other positions.

He can handle first base, left field, right field—but this is his proper position. And I think you’re seeing the result of letting a player play his adequate position—and [at the plate], doing it.”

The All-Star announcement came the same day the Rockies secured a 6-4 win over the White Sox at Coors Field. With the win, Colorado improved to 21-69, with six games remaining before the break. The 2024 White Sox set the MLB record with 71 losses at the break. To avoid breaking that record, the Rockies must win at least three of their next six games.
