Fake Court Summons Texts Demand Toll Payments

Denver officials are warning residents about a new scam that appears to be an official court summons.

Scammers are sending text messages claiming you failed to pay a toll and must appear in court. The message threatens arrest or additional penalties if you do not appear on the scheduled date and time.

To make the scam seem urgent, the text includes a QR code and tells you that paying immediately will help you avoid court.

Do not scan the QR code. Do not send money.

These messages are fake and are not legitimate court notices.

If you receive one of these texts, report it immediately at www.StopFraudColorado.gov or call the Denver District Attorney’s Fraud Hotline at 720-913-9179.
