DEN Appoints Chris Herndon Chief Commercial Officer

Summary
Denver International Airport (DEN) has taken a step in shaping its future, announcing last month that Chris Herndon has been selected as its next Chief Commercial Officer/Executive Vice President. In this pivotal role, Herndon will lead the airport’s entire commercial portfolio—from concessions and airline partnerships to hotel operations, rental car agencies, procurement, contracting, and risk management. He will officially step into the position on Dec. 15, 2025.
Herndon’s appointment marks a significant moment for DEN. With more than a decade of public-sector leadership, he brings deep experience in aviation operations, commercial strategy, and complex stakeholder engagement. During his 12 years on the Denver City Council—including two as Council President—he played a central role in negotiating city budgets exceeding $1 billion and consistently advocated for policies shaping DEN’s growth and regional impact. His past service on the airport’s Management Advisory Council gave him a direct hand in long-range commercial planning and airport-wide strategic decisions.
Before entering public service, Herndon spent several years with United Airlines in commercial operations, overseeing ramp and hub functions at one of the airline’s busiest stations—experience that gives him valuable on-the-ground insight into the operational realities facing major carriers and airports.
“Chris brings a unique blend of government leadership, commercial acumen and firsthand aviation experience,” said DEN CEO Phil Washington. “His ability to build partnerships and drive strategic growth will help strengthen DEN’s position as a global gateway.”
Herndon holds degrees from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point (BS), Webster University (MA), and the University of Colorado Denver (MPA), and he is a veteran of the U.S. Army.
