CBWPA to Honor Black Power and Promise at 47th Annual Tribute to Black Women Luncheon

The awards will be presented at the 47th Annual Tribute to Black Women Luncheon on Saturday, October 4, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. This gathering is a signature celebration of Black women’s voices and victories in public service, health, education, the arts, and civic life.

Adding to the occasion, Symone Sanders-Townsend, MSNBC host and political strategist, will serve as the event’s distinguished guest speaker.

2025 Honorees:

LaDawn Sullivan – Community Award. Executive Director of the BRIC Fund, recognized for her work in advancing racial equity, building community wealth, and supporting grassroots leadership across the state.

Diedra Johnson – Public Health Award. As Executive Director of the Center for Community Health, Johnson is honored for her commitment to health equity and culturally responsive care.

Khaleih Reed – Youth Award. A student leader at CU Denver and President of the Black Women’s Student Alliance, Reed is recognized for her advocacy and positive impact on campus and in the broader community.

Tina Walls – Excellence in Arts Award. Walls is honored for her efforts to preserve Black cultural heritage and elevate underrepresented voices through the arts.

Terita Walker – Education Award. Principal of Denver’s East High School and the 2025 Colorado Principal of the Year, Walker is recognized for her leadership and dedication to student success.

Jennifer Allen-Thomas – Political Leadership Award. The first Black woman elected to the Commerce City Council, Allen-Thomas is acknowledged for her role in expanding civic engagement and advocating for community-focused policies.

Dr. Blanche Hughes – Education Award. As Vice President for Student Affairs at Colorado State University, Dr. Hughes is celebrated for her decades of work supporting students and expanding access to higher education.

This year’s luncheon not only celebrates these accomplished honorees but also reflects CBWPA’s enduring mission to uplift the contributions of Black women leaders who shape communities and inspire future generations.
