Broncos Showtime in the Mile High, Ready or Not

The moment of truth is about to arrive in Broncos Country. Representing the AFC West and the No.1 seed in the conference are the Denver Broncos for real, or is their league-best 14-3 record a fluke? All the questions and more will be answered around 5:30 PM Mountain Time on Saturday after the Broncos host the Buffalo Bills at Empower Field at Mile High.

The quarterback the Broncos so desperately needed but passed up on in the 2018 NFL Draft comes to town as the reigning MVP of the league. By his side, Josh Allen will bring the NFL’s top running back leader, James Cook, with 1,621 yards. The Broncos’ running game on the other side goes without their starter, J.K. Dobbins, who is out with an injury. Their running back by committee is led by rookie RJ Harvey, Jaleel McLaughlin, and Tyler Badie.

On the sideline, two head coaches named Sean Payton and McDermott will match wits with a trip to the championship game on the line. The first game of the Divisional Round will be a rematch of the AFC Wildcard Game last season, when the Broncos were torched by the Bills 31-7 in Buffalo.

Since then, things have changed in Denver. Bo Nix shares the NFL record with 24 wins in his first two seasons in the league at quarterback. For the second time in team history, the Broncos held a 14-win record in the regular season. It will be the Broncos’ first postseason home game in 10 years, just before their Super Bowl 50 win.

While Allen is regarded as the best quarterback remaining in the playoffs, Nix finished ahead of Allen in passing yards in the regular season, finishing with 3931 yards, compared to Allen at 3,668 yards. In the Wildcard round, Allen took a physical beating and still led his team to a fourth-quarter comeback against the Jacksonville Jaguars on the road. Although no stranger to comebacks in 2025, the Broncos would be better served if they didn’t put themselves in that  position against the Bills.
